Mighty Like Moe

Brand Identity + Print Design

Done in Chicago, IL in the year 2020

In 1967, a year after Roberta Gibb became the first woman to compete in the Boston marathon, 13 year old Maureen (Moe) Mancuso broke the women's marathon world record. While her accomplishment went largely unrecognized at the time, her victory was another major step in the acceptance of women into the world of distance running.

Almost 50 years after her historic victory, Mighty Like Moe was created to further awareness of Maureen's story and form a community of young distance runners around the world. To launch Mighty Like Moe, the founders were looking for a brand that firmly embraced both the contemporary world of competitive sports while also acknowledging the strides that Maureen and other female runners made decades ago.

The brand takes a 60s inspired san serif font and uses it to form a wordmark and logo that shows the bold progress that has been made for women in sports while still acknowledging there is still much to be accomplished. The diamond pattern that helps complete the logo is taken from the shape of track that Maureen ran around to complete her world record back in 1967. The brand is youthful, bright, and progressive while still being nostalgic.
